Judgment Day

The decision is in…. drum roll please…. The baby is mine!! My request to adopt the baby has been accepted and they granted me my wish!! There is still the 15 day mandatory waiting period until the decision of the court is ‘final’, but I’m told that’s in case I change my mind. Since I won’t be doing that, she is mine!! I will not be able to get her (take her out of the baby house) with me until the 15 days is up… and now we can only visit every other day, which is going to kill me, and really make time go more slowly here with nothing set to do every day and not getting my baby fix for the day…. But at least the court decision is in, so for that part, I can relax!

Court was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. The judge left the building about 11:00 saying she’ll be back in about 20 minutes! LOL. OK! So, when we were all there, court began. It started with questions directed at me, then my lawyer spoke, then the Director of the baby house, then the representative from the Dept. of Guardianship who also is looking out for the best interest of the child. The judge asked the prosecutor if she had any questions for me. Nope! They asked me if I had any last questions, (I did not), so the judge needed about 20 minutes to deliberate. We went back in the courtroom and the final decision was read. Yeah!! All in all, it lasted about an hour – including the deliberation. Not too bad at all, I must admit. (Although I was ready to get it over with, that’s for sure!)

We went to the baby house after the court decision to have a meeting with the director for a few minutes. I got to visit the baby, but only for about 5 minutes. She was happy to see me (and grandma!), and very sad to see me (and grandma!) go, but at least I got to see her on this day and hug and kiss her, and take some pictures! I have been advised to still not post pictures of her until the 15 days is up, so I won’t, but I think I will share her name with you now! (See, I saved something else for the END of the post to make sure you read the whole thing!) I have named her Maia Caroline. (Pronounced My-uh.) I know… this wasn’t even one of the names on my poll!! I found and chose this name after I got here and met her and decided many of the names I had in mind ahead of time just didn’t suit her. When I found this one in the baby name book I had brought with me, I thought it suited her perfectly.

So, three weeks to the day after meeting my little Maia, she is now mine… and in the courts eyes too!! What an exciting day!
